In order to enhance the family, patient, caregiver and medical staff quality of post procedure care, former movie studio executive Michael Katchman developed Patient Educational Media Systems.

Katchman coupled his professional experiences as a senior executive with film studios such as Orion, Lionsgate and MGM and his personal experiences as a parent of a child with congenital heart disease to develop a company which specializes in producing quality, theatrical grade care videos to assist families, patients, caregivers and medical staff with the pertinent and necessary information to assist in patient recovery following medical care and procedures.

“When our son Zack was born, and after all of the time that he spent in the hospital due to his congenital heart disease, I remember when it was finally time to take him home. My wife Bridget and I had this new baby who had undergone so much and he reached a point where he was ready to leave the hospital. However, there was very little instruction/direction on how to care for him in terms of wound care and rehabilitation processes once we left the hospital. I was very hungry for any and all information on how to care for this new person who had so many specific care needs. Unfortunately, not much was available, and we were left to “wing it.” Years later, I realized that there was still the need for some type of conduit for the family, patient, and caregiver to understand what to do, and how to do it, to assist in the healing process.  I recognized that much of the information that I had been provided by the hospital and doctors, in terms of at-home care, was difficult to understand and many times ambiguous. I felt that there had to be a better way of communicating this information and I was convinced that providing patient care videos was the best delivery. I decided to combine my expertise in the film industry and my personal experiences with Zack by offering families, patients and caregivers a vehicle to understand post discharge care procedures. These videos are designed to be informative with the understanding that the time of discharge is a particularly vulnerable and overwhelming time for patients and their at-home caregivers. This marked the origin of Patient Educational Media Systems.”

The main concept is to collaborate with the families, patients, caregivers and medical staff to develop short, comprehensive educational films, as well as, documentary based films which are easy to understand and follow, making everyone a part of the healing process.
